About Us

Who we are

The Asido Foundation is a Not-for-Profit Mental Health Advocacy Charity with the aim of providing evidence-based information, specially tailored advocacy efforts as well as interventions; with the long-term view of contributing towards filling the huge mental health needs of the Nigerian populace.

It should no longer be acceptable for persons with mental disorders to lack access to quality care, or be ignorant of how and where to access care. Their personal dignity and human rights should be protected and respected at all times. There should be no more shame or stigma associated with mental illness than is associated with physical illnesses.

How we do it

Asido Foundation encourages the development of resilience through capacity building, mental health promotion interventions and youth empowerment initiatives to support the attainment of everyone’s full potentials, regardless of their mental health

Our Values

The core values of the Asido Foundation are: dignity and respect for human rights, equity and social justice, scientific evidence, respect for culture and religion, accountability, integration, and service user empowerment.

These values and principles are guided by global best practices as espoused in the National Mental Health Policy of Nigeria (2013) and the West Africa Health Organization’s (WAHO) Strategic Mental Health Plan (2018-2023). They are also in tandem with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations; the WHO Mental Health Action Plan of 2013-2020; as well as the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD).

The Asido Foundation envisions a Nigerian society in which all persons will enjoy optimal mental health regardless of age, gender, socio-economic status, religious creed or ethnicity.

Our Mission

Our mission is to promote mental health advocacy and reforms with a view to improving awareness, reducing stigma and discrimination and empowering persons with mental disorders and their families.
